B3 architecture

B3 architecture was founded in 2010 under the direction of George Beach. George has an extensive range of planning and design experience, from large-scale mixed-use & commercial projects to small-scale handcrafted projects. Most of his career has been focused on designing award winning K-12 education facilities while working at several international architectural practices. Over the past twenty years, these opportunities have allowed George to collaborate with the some of the most influential architectural designers and educational planners in the country. With the advice of Glenn Murcutt in 2004, “Begin your practice the way you want it to end”, George is developing a clear vision that will sustain a vibrant and innovative architectural practice for years to come.

The design process moves surprisingly fast and early decisions (or non-decisions) make large impacts on the outcome of a project. For us, discovering ways to engage more of the forces that shape a project early in the design process will lead to more comprehensive and intentional solutions. Deliberately engaging these design influences & voices is the key to success: the more strands of influence, the richer the tapestry of design. Sadly, all too often in school, Architects are trained to do their work in isolation, which is a limiting factor to developing truly thoughtful & appropriate design solutions. Through a process of collaging ideas and images in a collaborative relationship with the client & end users, then a stripping away of any excess reveals the essence of a functional & beautiful project. Thoughtful planning at the beginning of design and attention to detail throughout the construction process will yield an exceptional & worthwhile built environment.

B3 architecture has accepted the 2030 Challenge and follows the Petals & Imperatives matrix from the Living Building Challenge. Although most building projects will not attain zero energy status or become energy positive producers, they can still be positive contributors to a sustainable built community. Projects that are approaching zero energy, and provide a path forward to an environmentally sustainable future.
